magic trick

I'm going to try a magic trick today, going to try to take everything I cut for one large quilt, and turn it into 2 baby quilts.  Yesterday my plan was the make one large quilt, so I cut everything for Jack's Star.... which would have measured 57 by 75.   The more I thought, the more I read my friend's comments, each baby deserves their own quilt.  Plan B here I come.
Step one..... I'm making the middle of Jack's Star....
This is the first row... Stay tuned for the rest.  I'm hoping to get it pieced today.  Finished measurement will be 45 1/2 inches square.  So that will make a nice baby quilt.

The rest of my Jack's star quilt is cut into 3 1/2 inch strips... So I'm thinking of sewing 3 strips together, to make a block 9 1/2 inches, then do a rail fence version.... Maybe do the background in the center?   so if I make 25 blocks, 5 across and 5 down, that should measure 45 1/2 inches...
I can't wait to quilt these.... now that I am comfortable with my rulers, I can't wait to figure out what I want to do on them.

These fabrics are organic fabrics..  I found a brand new needle helped.  I'm using a size 90, but I'm wondering if I should put in a size 80 or 70?     The fabric is beautiful, very soft, perfect for a baby quilt.  I haven't quilted with organic fabrics before.

If you are looking for an easy baby quilt, I found this yesterday at We All Sew.... it's a very easy baby quilt.

It uses 10 inch squares and 9 1/2 inch squares.
Great for stash busting.
Happy Sewing!
